I selected a mobile responsive web design called Agency Pro for our website makeover. The site had become dated and was badly in need of a re-design. While it had been high on my “To Do” list for a long time, other projects were getting the bulk of my attention. The shoemaker’s children are always the last to get new shoes, as they say.
But that’s only part of the story. Enter the (relatively) new kid on the block….
The shopper with a smartphone
Mobile enabled shoppers are changing the B to C marketplace. They’re using smartphones to surf the web more than ever before. They expect Google to show them search results that link to websites which are easy to view on their smartphones, I-Pads, tablets, etc.
Google responded by announcing they would be making an adjustment to their search algorithm. Website “mobile friendliness” was going to be a factor in determining Google’s search engine rankings! This was big news for all webmasters.
The actual rollout of this algorithm update began on April 22nd, 2015.
Expectations are this update will give mobile responsive websites even more of a boost to their rankings going forward. I don’t know about you, but Google’s announcement really got my attention.
Mobile responsive web design — gotta have it!
This morning, I received an email from eMarketer. They’re a great source for the latest information on digital marketing, media and commerce. Here’s the headline from today’s feature article:
Get Outta Town, PCs! Mobile Takes Over Local Search Volume
The article goes on to discuss how mobile devices are impacting the local search space. Local search query volume for mobile devices is rising, while it’s falling slightly for PCs. Remember, in 2014 there were about the same number of local searches done using a mobile device as a PC. Follow this link to read the full article on their website.
Note to self: Write more about this powerful trend in upcoming posts.

In summary, here’s the current situation as I see it:
